Filter Posts. Hello, Reddit! I managed to get Dolphin up and running today but I’m having some performance issues (I’m a total noob when it comes to computers so please bear with me). I’m using version 3.5 and while some games are running pretty smooth (Sonic Adventure 2 Battle, Mario Party 7, Pac Man World 2), others are extremely choppy (MKDD, Star Fox Adventures). MKDD runs fine on Window size but drops down to about 30% speed on full screen, and Star Fox is completely unplayable. I should also mention that I had first downloaded version 4.0, but it was running extremely slow and the audio sounded horrifying so I downgraded. This version is working much better, but still lagging with some games.
These are my specs: Processor: 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5 Memory: 4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 4000 512 MB Software: OS X 10.13.1 Thanks for hearing me out. Any help would be much appreciated! I keep alternating between 5.0 and 3.5 and here’s what I found: Version 3.5 - runs Sonic Adventure 2 Battle very smoothly - runs Mario Party 7 smoothly but with some graphical glitches (like choppy text boxes) - Star Fox Adventures is unplayable - Mario Kart: Double Dash runs smooth on window mode, extremely laggy on full screen Version 5.0 - Sonic Adventure 2 Battle is extremely laggy, the audio barely works - Mario Party 7 doesn’t have the graphical glitches anymore but is extremely laggy - Mario Kart: Double Dash is lagging even on window mode. Hey xiron, I’ve been trying out version 5.0 for a couple of days and this is what I’ve found:. I started out with default settings for everything and found it to work ok. Not perfect but ok.
Wind Waker fluctuated between 20-30 fps. Not bad but a lill irritating.
Same thing on Mario Sunshine. Fiddling with the graphical settings I noticed something odd. Opening the graphical settings window while playing the game for some reason makes it run smoother. I managed to play a very satisfactory session of Wind Waker this way. Still not perfect though 25-30 fps. I tested this with Mario Sunshine and Metroid Prime to the same results. Weird but effective.
Open Dolphin - Run game - runs slow - open graphical settings window while running the game - runs smoother (bet it’s something really stupid I’m not understanding due to my lacking knowledge of computation. Works like a charm though). Last night I tried overclocking to 150% and that seemed to do the trick. I played a whole session of Wind Waker at 28-30fps. Very little lag. A lot better than before.
Still aplying the graphical settings “trick”. So for now it’s been working and I’ve been able to play Zelda with very ittle frame drops. Hope it helps. Cheers and good luck!
My specs Im on a 2013 Macbook pro Processor: i7 2.9GHz Memory: 8GB graphical: (not sure, left my laptop at home today:P) OS: Sierra 10.13.1.
